Wellness Walk, Issue #013 - Lyme-Autism Connection May 19, 2010 |
| Greetings! I would like to tell you about the Lyme-autism connection! You may never have heard about the connection between chronic Lyme disease and autism. Your doctor may not have heard about it either. But, it is important for you to know about it. You see, about 25 – 40% of cases of autism are due to chronic Lyme disease. A prominent pediatrician estimates that this percentage is actually much higher. Furthermore, chronic Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and autoimmune disorders. I am finding that these conditions are usually due to chronic Lyme disease. Autism, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and autoimmune disorders are just names given for a group of symptoms. When you look closely at the symptoms, you will find that they are remarkably similar. Also, the cause of these conditions is unknown. Chronic Lyme disease has these same symptoms, but chronic Lyme disease has a known cause namely the Borrelia borgdorferi bacteria. When you treat the infection, the symptoms improve! I encourage you to read more about the Lyme-autism connection . By the way, I become highly suspicious about chronic Lyme disease in a family when multiple family members have diagnoses listed at the above link. If you and/or your family members actually have chronic Lyme disease, you must be properly tested by a physician thoroughly trained in this condition. These physicians are called Lyme literate medical doctors (LLMDs). Most other doctors have no idea how to diagnose and treat chronic Lyme disease because they have not received this specific training. I would like to mention that I have been trained through the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) by two prominent LLMDs on the east coast. Also, I am board certified in Integrative Medicine. In addition, I offer natural health consultations involving proper Lyme disease testing and natural treatment options near Cincinnati, Ohio. My clients are getting better! I would love to meet you and to help you! Feel free to pass this newsletter along to others in its entirety so that it can help others, too! Also, make sure to check out Autism in the Christian Home website and Autism Blog. Take care, Valerie L. Richey, MD, ND, BCIM
